Birdwatching in style and comfort

We were staying at the Sanu Lagoon resort and the owner arranged a pontoon boat ride at sunset at discounted rates. We were punted around the lagoon, and the ride was comfortable. Free fruits slices and water is available, and you can also buy beer or wine. There were six of us on board, and the poleman took us into the corners of the lake to see monitor lizards, kingfishers, monkeys and various bird life such as egrets and cormorants. We also saw around 500 huge bats taking wing from the trees along the waterline for their nocturnal hunt.It was a great way to spend an hour on the lake.

A dream come true

I’ve always wanted to learn to surf, but never managed to find the time when I was younger. Finally when on holiday with my family, i noticed our hotel suggested that Waka was a recommended surf school - personal lessons and a bit less touristy.I got in touch and arranged a set of 3 lessons every morning before breakfast. A TukTuk picked me up and took me to the beach where Pya patiently took me through it. It was tough, but his technique really worked and was less about physical strength and more about fluidly moving from lying down to standing up - heal to knee and up.Im happy to say that by day 2 I had ridden a small wave and by day 3 I was able to stand and ride a few more.I’m hoping to go back and pursue the dream, particularly as my wife had bet me that I wouldn’t even be able to stand up!Hats off tho Pya - I cant recommend this experience enough. I also liked supporting a small enterprising business - this is what tourism should be about!
