Excellent food but ... too long of a wait
Absolutely loved the food ( eel pate, good gras & artichoke); the sommelier was really accommodating offering rare wines by glass via coravine. However they had a large b’day party table to serve that night and the rest of the guests had to wait for 40 min to get starters and about 90 for the main .The place is busy till late book in advance

Best on the Jūrmala Beach
Well, I don’t know if it’s the best in Jūrmala, but it was the only one here that was recommended to me over and over. Situated on a long sandy beach on the Baltic, just 30 minutes from Riga, this open aired terrace restaurant is a jewel. The waiters, all wearing black and white uniforms, were thoughtfully attentive without being bothersome. I ordered the simplest plates, a garden salad with olive oil and the grilled sea bass. Both were perfectly prepared! My best meal since arriving in Riga four days ago. Comfortable ambiance, with an eclectic clientele...businessmen, beautiful women, sitting together or alone, romantic couples, mother-daughters, even a family with small children, sharing an anonymous afternoon by the sea.

Great food and great service.
Very tasty food. We ordered fried cheese and selection of different garlick breads for starters. Perfect, fresh and just made. Main course was pork medallions and seafood pasta. Very tasty and good. You have to try unfiltered local beer. Just lovely. Thanks for your comment! We hope to see you back soon! Best regards, Grilbārs Lighthouse

One of the best japanese ever
What a nice surprise! We took beef (!!!) sushi and spicy eel / mango sushi. They were both more than fantastic. So was the desert, pineapple ravioli. Two main courses and two desserts with a bottle of nice wine 60 euros. Worth of every euro. Very polite and smiley staff. One minor problem. The portions were quite small.

Superb meal and wonderful service worth a splurge
Strolling along the white sand beach we came across the Lighthouse restaurant. Tables outside on a lovely terrace overlooking the Baltic, a wonderful setting. The menu was interesting and varied and the wine list extensive. The food was superb and the service second to none. My dessert cheese platter was a meal in itself and had followed a delicious dish of roast pork. Whilst not cheap the venue, food and service make this worth a splurge. Go on treat yourself, you're on holiday.

Not a ceasar - but still nice
We came here for lunch. The service was a bit slow, but the ambience is great. We tried their ceasar salat with king prawns. The prawns were great, the lettuce very fresh and there was a great amount of parmesan - however the dressing was definitely not a ceasar dressing. It tasted very nice though.

The place looked busy and need brunch.Had the farmers breakfast. It said eggs onions, potatoes and sausages. I wasn't sure what I was actually getting but imagined a heaped plate of those items ( my Latvian not good and sometimes translations aren't quite right)To my surprise it was a snagging omelette and definitely hit the spot.Good here is all fresh and the fruit juices were lovely and again freshly squeezed. The pricing here is good and just a great we place. Later in the day walked back past and was still busy.Worth a try if you are hereI was pleasantly surprised that it was an omelette and delicious it was too.

Uneven, but with potential
View has the ambition to be in a top leauge. And to an extent they are.Supreme location within the Baltic Beach hotel and with a name exactly describing what it has: a great view over the beach and the sea.The menu is a little bit too extensive to be taken seriously. Less dishes on the menu are always a good sign for a chef with concentration and top notch intentions.A small amuse was adorable in composition, although with not so much to offer in taste.Starters were both interesting and inventive. We had ravioli with kamchatka crab in a very tight and intense shellfish sauce. Delicious! Likewise, the ravioli with fois gras turned out to be excellent.Mains were generally more mainstream and we tried the tiger prawns with vegetables. Fresh and fine, but nothing special. The vegetables could have won on some more minutes in the pan - they were almost raw.The sturgeon was one of the more pricy dishes. Good intention with a vegetable julienne and in a slightly asian flavoured sauce. In my opinion though, the sturgeon was not perfect; a bit overcooked and it had a "fishy" taste that could not quite be hidden by the glaze sauce. Maybe not totally fresh? In any case I've eaten delicious sturgeon previously and this one didn't resemble previous experiences.Good wine list, but where were the (few, I admit) Latvian wines? Should be represented for the sake of local pride...Very correct and friendly staff. To sum it up:Had given four TA-points if the mains had been up to par with the starters - they were interesting, even exciting. Standard mains without excitement. If your'e not aiming for a piece of steak, take two starters and skip the mains.

Delicious lunch, beautiful venue, attentive staff.
Having read some of the reviews on here, I was a little apprehensive about choosing this place for lunch but, having taken a 4 mile walk along the bleakly beautiful white- sanded beach, I was hungry enough to risk it. The location is delightful, it had begun to rain so the terrace was deserted; I imagine that this is an idyllic dining spot in fair weather. The waiting staff were polite and attentive and they spoke English, which was much appreciated. This is not a cheap restaurant but, as I discovered, it offers great value for money. The vegetarian dishes were clearly marked and there was a English language menu. I chose the basil and tomato spaghetti for €13. Whilst waiting, the waiter brought me a basket of bread and breadsticks with a selection of tasty dips. My spaghetti was simply delicious, fresh, perfectly seasoned and balanced. I had a train to catch so I needed to rush off, which was a pity as this dish deserved to be savoured. As an English speaking vegetarian, I highly recommend this restaurant. The other customers looked pretty happy too.
