Great hotel, nice refurnished modern/classy rooms, try local beer, amazing view
We stayed there with our 8 months old daughter. this hotel is family friendly, has a great play room and the staff accommodated us with baby chair, the menu has a special children card and they provide free of charge a crib for your room (very nice one). We also got surprised with a nice bouquet of flowers as i told them we celebrate our trip. The room we had was nicely refurnished. They also gave us a baby phone so we could have dinner at the terrace without worrying about our daughter. Food is great, order the local specialties and the local wine and beer.

Good service, terrible food
We had dinner at the Alpina during peak season. Leading with the good news: despite the restaurant being quite busy, we were served timely and very friendly. The bad news: the food was terrible. Undercooked schnitzel, undercooked rice with overcooked vegetables. Despite the good service, not eating there again. (the two- instead of one-star is really only thanks to the good service)

Good end to a day trekking
Whether in Winter or Summer time, at peak season, mountain large self service restaurants are not famous for good food at reasonable prices. But in recent years some of them have made efforts to improve quality and not only milk tourists that have no other choice. This place, that beneficiates from a great view not only over the magnificent Aletsch Glacier but also over the Southern Part of the Swiss Alps seems to be such case. The lunch menu, main dish and dessert, we select after our 4 hours trek, at below CHF 20.- if memory serves well, was indeed quite good. Not a sophisticated dish but well prepared and served in a large portion of meat, vegetables and noodles. Balanced and appreciated after the effort!

A mixed bag
The restaurant is Gilde-rated and I was having the dinner part of my half board at another hotel because the restaurant there closed on Mondays. The starter of snails provencale was absolutely divine, the use of herbs was absolutely masterful so I was realy looking forward to my main course of Zuercher Geschnetzeltes but the veal was overcooked adn teh Roesti soggy. Ther service was good as was the wine list but given it's Gilde rating it was bit of a disappointment.

Special dishes with unusual combinations
Small restaurant (early reservation mandatory!) with a short but very tasty menu, with special dishes that you won't find in any other restaurant in Bettmeralp. Great mix of traditional and nouvelle cuisine. And the Glacktricka team is extremely friendly, creating a sort of familial atmosphere among the guests.

Amazing view, terrible service
As a foreigner living and working in Switzerland this never ceases to amaze me. The acceptance of bad service and value. I visited Bettmer Hitta in a party of 3, for lunch during a ski weekend. It is located very nicely the scenery is amazing, surrounded by snowy alps. We ordered food and drinks. I opted for the Bettmer Käseschnitte (20 chf) and my mother-in-law and girlfriend decided to split 1 portion of homemade spätzli (23chf).The food took ages to arrive. After 40 min the spätzli arrived, no apologies from the waitress. and after 1 hour and 10 min my Käseschnitte arrived, by this time the others had already finished and i had to eat alone. Again no apology from the staff. This is in my book completely unacceptable! I ventilate my thoughts and my girlfriend and mother-in-law (both swiss) say that this is completely normal which i find so bad. Most people living in Switzerland know that eating out is over prized and almost always badly made (considering the price). But this was just too much. I have never experienced bad service like this, like you are supposed to be grateful to be there and just sit and take it. Never again.

Such a great dinner experience it made us want to come back to stay
This has been our favorite dinner experience in Switzerland, most of our time in which has been in this Aletsch Arena area. The food was amazing, with beautiful presentation as well. The wine list is extensive, backed by a great wine cellar, and our choice of a recommended organic Pinot Noir from the area was excellent. The restaurant and the hotel it is part of are so beautiful, with a wonderful view and a lot of character - a reading room with the fireplace burning and a "smoking room" with a turntable and large collection of classic rock LPs, for example. But most of all, the friendly and kind service and attention made us feel as part of the family and we want to go back not just to eat but to stay in the hotel when possible. The price of the food was very reasonable too, with a complete fixed price menu available for 47-53 Francs (depending on choices) which included appetizer, soup, the beautiful salad buffet, a full entree, and an excellent dessert. We especially loved that there is a lot of attention to making things natural and healthful, with many organic options and with a wonderful salad buffet with beautiful varieties of fresh greens and vegetables and many kinds of organic oils, vinegars, homemade dressings, etc. There are good vegetarian options on the menu and so it's really a place you can feel like coming back to repeatedly and it will be good for you. And they accept American Express!

Excellent food in Swiss Chalet style restaurant
The Walliser Spycher hotel also has a restaurant which has the typical Swiss Chalet style "wooden" look. It is really cozy and mostly offers Swiss cuisine such as the typical Cheese Fondue or Raclette, but also other dishes like steak, Fondue Chinoise (meat fondue). During our stay on Riederalp we dined twice at the Walliser Spycher and the food was excellent. The entrecote (steak) was delicious and cooked to perfection. I also tried my wife's Schnitzel which tasted excellent, with just the right amount of breading. I shared a Cheese Fondue and it was great. The service was also very friendly: We had a lady server, who was just very sweet with our daughter and gave her toys to keep her entertained. The other server was funny and kept us entertained. Overall a great dining experience.

Best hiking in Switzerland
Never heard of this town, but booked a weekend retreat at chalet @Guxa. The entire region is great. Loads of hiking so close by. Bettmerhorn is a great spot for views, the hike over the peak to Eglishorn is challenging but super worth it. You should be ready for a climb. NOTE: Blue and white markers means tough going... red and white are normal hiking routes. However, the majesty of it all is a true wonder for all, and a must see. The Aletsch glacier is a wonder to behold! The Betmerhorn Seilbarn ( cablecar) is a great view, however a short walk to moosfluh sail bahn is teulyworth the 30minute walk from bettmeralp...

Delicious food and reasonably priced for the location
I've eaten here numerous times over several years and we only ever order the Spätzle and Älplermagronen with apple sauce as they're so good. Compared to other restaurants in Bettmeralp, Panorama is reasonably priced and in a great location to sit, enjoy the sun on the terrace and watch the world go by. Menus available with English translations if needed.
