Awesome location at the lake
Summer feeling from the very first moment! The position at the lake, the huge terrace and the bright inside with a very long bar is all well arranged. The furnishing very comfortable, the staff extremely friendly, mindful and care-taking. The food was very good and the whole atmosphere relaxed holiday like! The salad with dry-aged beef excellent , the steak medium rare and the Linguine with prawns as well! Unfortunately it is still not common in Austria to receice a very short espresso italian style when ordering a ristretto. There is was the perfect finish of a wonderful evening.Another positive aspect is the huge parking area in front of the restaurant.Reservation in advance is highly recommanded! Thanks a lot for those nice Words!Greetings from the "Südufer"!

Good BBQ in Austria? Believe it...
Two slightly aging Texans, cleverly disguised as Madame and Your Intrepid Correspondent, looked in at the BarBQ Restaurant and Bar on a recent chilly and damp Wednesday evening. We found genuinely delicious BBQ -- a little to my surprise, I'll admit -- a congenial atmosphere, and superb, friendly service, all at a bargain price. The restaurant is adjacent to the G&K Hotel, with which it shares a large parking lot, just off Triesterstrasse. When we entered it became clear that the ground floor was a bar and smoking area; the latter, together with the fact that there is no lift to get up to the non-smoking restaurant section (Madame has some mobility problems), almost put us off the place. But the stairway proved not to be difficult, and the dining area -- which overlooks the bar on a balcony of sorts -- was much quieter and not really smoky. What were nicely smoky, on the other hand, were the ribs -- really good and tender with a sauce that was flavorful and (blessedly) not overly-sweet. We chose a ribs-and-wings platter and, having noticed the Fred-Flintstone-sized portions, decided to share; that worked out perfectly. Several glasses of Gruner Veltliner, a salad easily big enough to share, and an apple strudel dessert rounded out the proceedings, and we loved it.The young woman who was our server was friendly, efficient, and enjoyed practicing her English (considerably advanced over my German) with us. The surrounding couples (it was Valentine's Day, as it happened) seemed equally happy with their experiences, and overall the evening surprised us in a number of positive ways. Lots of parking in front of the hotel; we paid cash so I don't know which varieties of plastic are or aren't accepted. Telephone reservations are accepted, which was a good thing on that evening. We enjoyed ourselves, and hope to return --

very special place
DelicIious food, although the rest from the outside does not seem any special, quite shabby and worn out, but the interior was superb, nice atmosphere, many people, but still intimate. Menu was also in English what is not common in Auszria outside Vienna. waiter spoke some Ebglish and was very friendly and helpful. the food was great, even though a bit pricey, still wirth every penny.

Lovely little hotel, will be going back to try the food.
We stayed at the hotel to attend a friends wedding. The hotel was lovely, clean and is recommendable. Also a nice little hidden place away from the centre. The restaurant looked also very nice but we did not have time to try for ourselves. We will be going back one day.

If you haven't treated yourself to a Heuriger...
...you definitely need to visit a good one, and in Guntramsdorf Gausterer is one of the best. I hadn't been aware of the Heuriger model until a visit to Austria last year; it's a local tradition, as I understand it, and revolves around very young Austrian wines -- many produced within a few km of the restaurant, sometimes -- accompanied by mountains of delicious, inexpensive food. Some Heurigers, I'm told, are only open for a few weeks during those times when the new wines are available, although others are more year-round propositions. In any even, our group of about a dozen people, fresh out of a day of workshops, was treated extremely well at Gausterer. I stuck to the regional white wines, but reds were flowing too, along with good beer; the Schnitzels and Wursts and Bratens appeared as if by magic, and just kept coming. Seated at a long table in a basic but well-maintained dining room, we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. As we were guests I can't say much about prices, although during previous visits to other Heuriger establishments I was struck by how reasonable it all was. You are more or less guaranteed to find something you'll like to eat and drink (and drink...), along with a very warm welcome and a gemütlich atmosphere... I would love to come back.

Worth a visit but food is average
Took 36 people here and they struggled to serviced all of us even though we tried to stagger their entrance. Food was good and service was okay but not a great dining experience. But if you want something to eat, this is the place to o here.Staff a friendly.

We have been there again after some time. It is more exclusive now but nevertheless the food is good and not too expensive. A highlight its the homemade "cremeschnitte" with a lot of whipped cream, vanilla sauce and freshly baked puff pastry. Order a half one, it will be more than enough. There is also an excellent range of local wines to try. And the service-personnel is more than friendly.

Friendly, inexpensive, and delicious --
Having finished up a short stay in Gumpoldskirchen, Madame and I were on our way back to Central Vienna on a recent sunny and hot Wednesday...but first, we wanted to have lunch. Having heard about and driven past Heurigen Markus Gausterer many times we were hoping to give it a try, and when we spotted a legal parking space *right by the entrance!* we thought, destiny is calling, so warum nicht? And it turned out to be a fine choice. As in many such places you pick a table, order some drinks, and then go in to a central area where you order at the counter. Quite a few tempting offerings to choose from -- but we both went for slices of roast pork, cut to order. Sides are as you'd expect -- we tried potato salad and a cold cucumber salad, and like the pork they were delicious. Dessert, at a separate counter in the main area -- you don't have to join the main queue -- was a fine strawberry-and-cream-and pastry extravaganza, shared and enjoyed by both of us. Madame had a good glass of wine; as I was driving, it was sparkling water for me... Espresso wrapped things up very well indeed.Service is very friendly; it was a little slow during this busy lunchtime, but not so it became any problem. Prices were downright low; as we paid in cash I can't say which cards are honored, but I'd be surprised if Visa were not welcome (and, there are ATMs close by, one right across the street in fact). I wouldn't count on finding a parking spot in front for every visit (!), but I believe there is some parking behind the establishment's back entrance. If you do park on the street, put your _Parkuhr_ on the dash to note your time of arrival, and I believe you'll get two hours.Markus Gausterer enjoys the designation of "Top Heuriger", and it's easy to see why. Like other such places it is open only at certain times, usually for 2 or 3 weeks at a time during which various food and drink specialties get the spotlight. If a fir branch or (at night) a bright light is prominently displayed out front, it's open; their website will also tell you opening dates and specialties. Heurigen, with their young wines and good inexpensive eats, embody a delightful Austrian tradition that is not to be missed, and Markus Gausterer in my view is just about as good as it gets --
