Not as good as we'd hoped

We’d heard good things about this restaurant so gave it a go for a special family occasion, but unfortunately were left disappointed against expectations. The restaurant shares the building with the small pub next door, and it’s through this pub that we had to enter on the evening. That wouldn’t normally be a problem but on a Friday night it was busy with ‘party goers’ and despite having a reservation we had to order a drink while waiting. It is a bit of a ‘locals’ pub but fortunately there was a table free towards the rear so we were able to keep ourselves to ourselves for twenty minutes.Eventually we were welcomed through to the restaurant. It’s a lot larger than it looks outside and the main area has been decorated nicely however the toilets could do with some similar attention. We had a table for six in a small extension to the side. The table was spacious and the room was clean enough, although it seemed to lack a little of the atmosphere in the main area. Nice popadoms were brought as we looked through the menu but there was no spicy dip. There’s a good variety of drinks both by the bottle and on draught, plus the prices were all reasonable. The food menu is really extensive, offering Indian classics as well as Gurkha and house specialities. This was nice and made it a little more special than your normal curry. Starters were served in good time and were all decent sized portions. The main dishes were a little more underwhelming. Despite requesting for additional spice on some dishes they remained mild, however the mild dishes were actually served rather hot. For non-spice lovers this resulted in a difficult meal to stomach! The special Nepalese rice was really good and there’s a comprehensive range of breads offered too.It may be because the restaurant was busy that evening but the staff came across rather blunt throughout our stay, to the point of making us feel a little unwelcome. We had to chase in order to get our initial order taken and it was very slow for plates to be removed after the meal, but there were no pleasantries exchanged while we were being served. At the end of the meal it took an age to obtain the bill and it ended up being completely wrong as a number of tables had been mixed up. This did eventually get sorted out but it was a long winded process. I’m hoping we just got unlucky with the whole experience on what was a busy evening, so I’ll give it another go at some point, but otherwise I’d avoid popular times.Dear Steve,First of all, we would like to take the opportunity to thank you and your family for visiting Diya Royal on your special occasion. Please accept our apology for what you have experienced. We do take every single comments seriously and discuss within the team to improve. Staffs are fully trained and well-briefed to work smartly and efficiently on the busy night like that. But things goes out of control sometimes even we try our best. However, everyone should get top class food and the service as expected no matter what. I will have a word with the staffs find out. Regards to the additional spice on some dishes, that never happen. I can only assume that may be the staff who took order might have forgotten to mention the chef. Again, I do apologise for that and all the staffs will be briefed again about the issues like that.Steve, I can guarantee you that you'll not be disappointed again on your next visit for sure. Cant wait to welcoming you soon @ Diya Royal. Please try our newly introduced dishes or ask for the recommendation. I am sure you can't stop talking about it. New Gurkha Dishes - Pahadi Lamb, Bhuteko Masu, Piro Lamb, Gaunle Chicken (boneless or on the bone), Maccha Jhol (sea bass fish curry) if you are a fish lover and Deurali Chicken of starter.

Exceptional Restaurant in Bedford

The best Thai restaurant I've been so far and the greatest food I found in Bedford. Freshly made dish with superb aromas and taste. Tom Yum was just spot on, curries we have ordered were generously packed in ingredients.Reasonably prices as well! About £20 per person for Two courses + amazing flower tea. Restaurant is quite small but charming, clean and tidy. Beautiful relaxing thai background music and elements of the decor matching the Thai style. Great experience, surely coming back in the future.

Very Dissapointing

came here as staying in local hotel close by,went by fantastic reviews(shouldn't have bothered) we ordered 5 different types of small dishes to try & have like a tapas meal, because I didn;'t want anything too heavy,1x prawns,1x calamari,2x bruschetta and one pizza between us,all 5 dishes were cold!! we left some of the pizza because it was cold & un enjoyable to eat,! when I told the owner he didn't seem that surprised! but the excuse was can't heat plates because had salad on them, well solution serve salad on the side,or as I said just serve the food HOT!! the ham on the brusscetta wasn't even heated just plonked on top!! we had previously eaten in an Italian restaurant in the isle of wight 2 weeks before which was 100% better( hot & tasty),as I said at the time I wasn't after a freebie( but some sort of acknowledgment and proper apology would have been nice) he was quick enough to pull empty bottle of wine out of wine cooler & ask if we wanted another, but because of such a disappointing experience we decided not to give them anymore of our hard earned cash, so paid up & left!! won't ever be using again and have friends in the area that I told of what happened,we usually spend a lot of money when out for a meal but sadly they lost our custom & we went elsewhere of higher caliber on other nights we were in area!!! I find it bad when I tried to explain quietly so not to make a fuss, but owner just dismissed us afterwards.Dear Diane, thank you for your feedback and review following your recent visit. It is always dissapointing to read reviews like this! Your comments are taken on board fully and was fed back to all concerned on the evening. One did offer an apology and we will differ on opinions with regard to hot food served with salad but as you claim all of it was cold it is not in our opinion correct. Indeed, I cannot see how a pizza which has also just come out of a hot oven can be cold, and when asked if it was to your satisfaction the answer was yes.Sorry you felt your overall experience wasn't to your satisfaction. We do not dismiss your comments and opinions and an apology was provided at the time and you were also thanked for your consideration. Kind regardsGio

The Perfect Indian Meal

A colleague and I were in Bedford on business and Blue Ginger on Trip Advisor looked like the perfect restaurant for a good curry. From the minute we walked in we were made extremely welcome by all the staff and the owner. After 5 minutes talking with Shuel, it felt like we had known him for years, what a great guy.The service was first class a friendly with staff taking the time to make sure everything was ok, and it was.We both decided to go straight to the main courses and a Muglia Biryani and a King Prawn Biryani were ordered. Both dishes without a doubt were excellent. The flavours and fresh ingredients made it a dish not to be missed if you visit. I ordered mine with a Madras sauce, and again it was perfect.Overall the service, friendliness and quality of food served really made this the perfect meal.As I said earlier, this was our first visit to this restaurant, but Shuel and his colleagues made it effortless and really made the customer feel important. We will certainly be back the next time we are in Bedford.

Great Find

A cold morning dog walk prompted my friend and I to speculate about a spicy curry and a search engine brought up The Cochin, an Indian restaurant whose food is based on Keralan (south western) food. It definitely delivered, lovely fresh and spicy food, we shared the Cochin Prawn Curry, the Nadan chicken curry and a spinach and lentil side dish with chapatis. All the dishes were delightful, fresh tasting and spicy as we had requested. A very pleasant surprise, we’re the pappadoms, a wonderful selection of different styles we had never had before, light and fluffy plus dense and yet crunchy and tasty with a great selection of chutnies.Service attentive and quirky as is the general ambience.Would highly recommend . We were there on a Wednesday around 7.45 there were a few tables occupied but I can imagine at a weekend it may well be worth booking for peak time.Enjoy

We love this restaurant. Always a warm welcome and great service. I tend to have the same thing but my husband is working his way through the menu, which has many items to choose from and has never been disappointed. It is a small restaurant so I would advise booking so that you can enjoy their delicious food too.
