Ruchii, The Taste

Reviewed By cathy w - County Dublin, Ireland

Wonderful Indian flavoursome food from a passionate chef.

Decided to try out another restaurant in Blackrock and picked Ruchii, and we were really pleasantly surprised. The food was exquisite, ( mixed starter plate, garlic naan was crisp and no shortage of real garlic and the Lamb Rogan Josh had really tender lamb in a perfect sauce. Sateesh the Chef joined us to give us the background of his freshly made spices every day which added to fresh produce is so good! A real treasure for a suburb which needs one.

Continues to excel

We returned here after an enforced absence of about a year because we simply could not get a booking. The restaurant is very small, has a Michelin star and provides a truly wonderful evening of fine dining. In the interval, all I can say is that everything has improved - the food, the wine pairings and the quality of both the service and the atmosphere. The owners still refuse to provide any choice and the selection is better for this. Wonderful taste and texture combinations provide diners with new experiences with every course - and each course is carefully thought out and planned. We had a truly superb meal - all ten or eleven courses 'worked' and to my surprise, we found that new and exciting heights have been reached.Very, very highly recommended.

Delicious Food

We were celebrating a special event and decided to have lunch here. It's a small restaurant with very good food. Lunch specials during the week are limited. We opted for the tasting plate which consisted of several varied tasting bowls and a bowl of rice. Helpings were generous and the food was delicious. The owner found time to come and have a chat with us and was genuinely interested in conversing with us. The place was very clean. We loved it. Will be back. Thanks guys.

Overpowering lemon- pricey - noisy

We all started with the fishcakes special and the taste was overpowering with lemon which seems the chef likes lemon a lot. Could hardly taste the fish at all. Mains came which were lobster and the cod and pork belly. Once again the lemon added by the chef was overpowering in the cod and the other mains tasted fine. The portions were very small and we all had dessert to fill up our bellies. The staff were all excellent and attentive. The toilet door is directly at the end of the small restaurant and guests frequently left the door open and staff had to continuously close the door. I think an investment in a door closer would be well advised. The night in question was busy and there was a loud party beside us but the overall acoustics in the room are not great.Overall it was worth a visit but was very pricey for waht we got and we won't be back

Great midweek value !

Popped in for a midweek early bird on a recommendation from a friend and can safely say I was pleasantly surprised. I had an excellent French onion soup followed by really good confit duck, my wife had the goats cheese bon bon followed by the fish of the day which was plaise on the night we were in, all cooked very well and extremely tasty. We had a very good creme brûlée and chocolate tart to follow. At €28 we found this to be very good value for what we got for a midweek meal, the service is very attentive by the very nice Robert and his team with nothing problem. We didn’t drink as it was midweek but they have a full bar and wine list and also offer cocktails at good prices that we look forward to sampling when we come back for a weekend meal. Well done guys , keep up the good work.

Terrible service and rude

I rang to order take away pizzas for my daughter's birthday. They answered the phone and asked us to hold...they left us holding for 20mins!! I drove there while on hold. When I arrived and told them I was still at the end of the phone the manager thought this was funny! Then when I explained that I was trying to order pizzas to take away and I now needed them quickly he said it would be at least 30mins. I asked could they prioritise them as I needed them quickly now and did ring to order 20mins previously. The manager shrugged his shoulders, said no and walked away. They clearly don't care about customer service as it is such a busy restaurant. So disappointed.

Excellent Food, Friendly Service, Great Atmosphere

We have been frequenting 8a since we moved to Monkstown about 5 years ago. The food is always of the highest quality. Whether it is a boozy brunch or an Saturday night out, 8a never disappoints. The menu is quite extensive, though I generally order the fillet steak, or the lamb burger if going for brunch. The pork belly is very good too. What really set 8a apart though is the service and atmosphere. The front of house staff made an effort to get know us on our first visit and this has made The staff are extremely friendly and we always feel at home here. The live music on Friday nights is great too.
