Great ambience and food, but slow service

Ambience is fantastic and they have live music daily. It's a very popular place and we had to wait 20 minutes to get a table. The food we ordered tasted good But the lamb I had orders took nearly an hour to arrive. Service wise they could not cope with the packed house which was a shame. But overall the food tasted excellent and the lamb skewers I had ordered was worth the wait. Highly recommend it.

Totally overrated

Given these positive reviews we hurried to this place after arriving in karakol, but it was a big disappointment. So called home made lemonade was just syrup from a bottle ( the waitress seemed a bit hesitating when we ordered it) and an iced latte coffee, coffee better than average in Kyrgyzstan but still poor coffee quality. Service wasn't friendly at all. There are better coffee places in town!

Friendly and delicious

I have been to eat at the Alma Ethno Cafe here in Karakol three times this week. The food is excellent with a great selection of Kyrgyz dishes and the portions are huge. But the most special thing about this place is that they are so friendly and welcoming. They have a menu in English. It is worth the few blocks walk to savor some of these dishes. I recommend the Gulchatay on Talas, but everything I have tried has been very good.

Great spot to hang out and meet other travelers

Perfect spot to catch some afternoon sun sitting on old couches outside drinking beer. We stumbled upon Social as we were walking through Karakol and had a few beers there. The espresso wasn't great, but the snickers milkshake was totally worth it. There's a little book exchange, a whiteboard where travelers can look for transportation & companions, and you can find maps of the area as well as gas canisters. You won't find locals here, but it's a great spot to meet travelers and swap stories as you sip a cold beer.
