You can drive right up to the top of Te Mata peak, there is free car parking there and you can hop out and take some pics. Absolutely amazing views from the top. A must visit for anyone who is in Napier.

ROD McDONALD WINES AT TE AWANGA ESTATE The last winery along the Te Awanga beachfront before the start of the Cape Kidnappers walk is the 'Kiwi beach house-chic' styled building that houses the Te Awanga cellar door, home of Rod McDonald Wines. It sits on a rise well back from the shore, surrounded by vines and with a superb view out over the ocean. Originally a working part of the winery, the cellar door is an impressive space with 5 metre-high ceilings and a great view of our white barrel hall through a huge sliding glass door. Here you can purchase from our full range of award winning wines and a wide selection is open for tasting. You can even pick up a bottle or two of something special – wines only retailed through the cellar door – or take home a souvenir of your visit from our quality branded merchandise. The friendliest of all our winery visits. Very engaging lady who told us of her history at the vine yard. Sensible four glass (75ml) for NZ$ 15 with notes for enjoying at own pace The coffee is great as well. With hindsight should have tried the beers!
