I dined at Vennels on Friday evening with my wife and friends and my daughter to celebrate her 7th birthday and had an amazing experience. From entering the restaurant we were met by the owner (Laura) and the two front of house staff. These guys made us welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was the star of the show and after dinner we met with the owner and chef (John). Okay, the restaurant isn't cheap but as a special occasion destination it cannot be beaten. To make our night the whole staff and other diners sang "happy birthday to our daughter". Well done Vennells!Great to meet you and the family. Hope you enjoyed the main event on Saturday night!

Lovely fresh thick fish
We were holidaying in the area and visited Harry’s based on the good reviews on tripAdvisor. First impressions very clean and tidy and didn’t smell of dirty chip fat. We had fish and chips and a can of Shandy. The fish was amazing quality and nice and thick and it was fresh as made to order. For us the chips they were too crunchy as we prefer soggy chips. But if you are a crispy chip lover this is the place for you. If we were in the area we would go again for fish and maybe get curry sauce over the chips to soften them.

We called for an early lunch today and decided on a breakfast for two of us an a Italian burger for the third plus tea and coffee. I had the filtered coffee and it was tepid and stewed then we had a 3/4 hour wait for our main course. The food was tasty but poorly presented, there was no salt and pepper on the table, we were asked wether we wanted sauce and when it arrived it was in a sachet. Not good. But then we were presented with two slices of toast that had some sort of spread on them that appeared like a greasy stain in the middle of each slice, again not good. When I went to pay I got the distinct impression that there was either a dispute in the kitchen or that the chef was missing because there were raised voices and an atmosphere! It was maybe an off day but we won’t be going again. We are so sorry that your visit fell short of your expectations. We did explain to all customers that day we were 2 members of staff short and that there would be a delay with the service of food as it was an extremely busy Bank Holiday Monday. We are pleased that you found the food tasty, and can only apologise that the toast was not to to your liking. We do hope that you will visit again.

Lunch and dinner
After enjoying great food and coffee at lunch time we also booked for dinner . The service was superb smiling , welcoming staff who clearly had a purpose and enjoyed their work. Initially our dinner reservation had disappeared but a table was readily available. Excellent choices on the menu backed up with great presentation and wonderful flavours . Reasonly priced wine complimented the evening . If you go nowhere else in Masham go to the White bear first there is nothing comparable

Good, but not as good as they hype
The meal was included in our room package. You could choose three courses (starter, main, dessert) from a menu. They also gave bread, and two small tasting plates in addition to what you ordered. The dishes were well executed, but in each course, there seemed to be an element or two that was done for pure texture and no taste. My husbands dessert had a bland yellow jelly thing that was used soley as an aesthetic wrapper on food. a fancy mousse in the appetizer was bland. The milk crisp on my dessert looked cool, but just tasted like powdered milk. That said, my dessert was amazing in taste other than the milk crisp. Don't get me wrong, it was a good experience, but as far as fine dining goes, I've had better.

Nice little place.
We were in town for the craft fair at the Town Hall and as their tearoom was full we wandered across the market square to Bordar's. Glad we did. There was a great little team of ladies buzzing around to keep the orders coming and all very nice is was too. Worth another visit next time we're up that way.
