Excellent hiking trip with guide Chris
We made a three day hiking tour through the beautiful Usambara Mountains with Chris. We stayed at eco friendly guesthouse Bush Baby Homestay and at the Sister’s Convent at Rangwi, Our final night was spend at Mtae, at Magumba Cottages. All accomodation was small scale, clean, with lovely home cooked meals and a local atmosphere. Chris adjusted the hiking trails very wellto our level, he knows all the trails and shortcuts in those mountains. It meant we could enjoy the lush and beaituful environment without having to worry if we would make it to the next accomodation . Chris knows a lot about the history and environment of the mountains, and he has a very sharp eye spotting nearly invisible chameleons. Chris is friendly, reliable and arranged our trip to perfection. I recommend him as a guide in the Usambara Mountains wholeheartedly.

Fun Filled Adventure!
Making your way up the Usambara Mountains by bus is a stunning and spectacular experience itself, but what really makes the trip worth it is having a guide to show and teach you all about the areas natural environment, culture, and history. Experiencing Magamba Eco-Cultural Tourism, I went on a village walk where I interacted with a number of the incredibly kind and friendly members of the community. We also went on a hike up a mountain where I witnessed the stunning view of the cities of Magamba and Lushoto from a high peak and shared fruit together. I enjoyed witnessing and learning about the number of tree conservation projects going on that engage local people. Alfonce and Zumeeru are both such helpful and humourous guides - would 100% recommend!

One day before we wanted to start our hike, we met Mussa in the Tayodea office in Lushoto. Even though we were late in the afternoon, our 3- day hike could be organised the way we wanted. Next day we started our hike, including one overnight stay at the Rangwi sisters and one at Mamboviewpoint in Mtae (take warm clothes, very cold up here). First day we had a pretty intensive climb, but Mussa supported us to make it to the top. He was a very friendly, funny and good English- speaking guide. Let’s saaaaay, we had a lot of fun with him. We also learnt a lot about nature and the Tanzanian culture of him. Lunches are included in the program, and we really enjoyed them! At day one we had our own home-made picnic with fresh fruits and vegetables Mussa brought with him. We really loved the different scenery, peaceful villages, running and laughing kids and the cameleons during the hikes. Even though we had some problems with the local transport, Mussa tried to make everything as smooth as possible. Totally recommend!
