Nice Old Monastery

We stopped in and saw the Russia Orthodox Monastery, the monk who greeted us was nice gave us a short tour due to the construction work being done for restoration.

Lovely street with beautiful 19th Cent. buildings

Walkable street with streetcar running down it. Restaurants and coffee houses abound. Rode streetcar all the way to the train station and back ending at the Armenian Church.

Beautiful Sunni mosque

Very unusual style built for a millionaire from Azerbaijan around 1900. Very colourful and based on Egyptian style. I was able to enter the Mosque (headcover required). Interior was being renovated while I was there so there were scaffolding everywhere. L

Constructed for the 60th anniversary of Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. A large complex with many memorial statues. Well worth a visit.
