Criminal overcharging for distinctly average food
This was our most underwhelming experience in The Gambia. I am not sure how exactly the restaurant had the audacity to serve one minuscule brochette of chicken as the satay starter which we ordered. The ladyfish main course was so dry that the half of it we ate we had to wash down with water. The unmixed cocktail served up by ‘the best bartender in The Gambia’ was equally atrocious - see photo attached. I’ve given this review two stars, however, because the THREE prawns I received as my main (at £8 a pop!) tasted nice. After reading all the rave reviews about this place, we were shocked by the quality and quantity of the food. The ‘explanation’ provided: “This is Ngala Lodge”. Not even the courtesy of discounting the meal. Please, save yourself some disappointment and avoid.I am sorry Kevin that you did not appreciate our style and taste of cuisine. Our restaurant manager told me he would have discounted your food had you conducted yourself in a more civilised manner.

Crocs and food
Went to Calypso to watch the crocs being fed and then have dinner. We weren't disappointed. Watching the crocs was great, then the food to follow was quality! The menu is varied and not too expensive considering the surroundings. We particularly enjoyed the Captain fish and the Fish in foil.

The best meal we had in The Gambia & on a par with a good British Indian restaurant
We were prepared to pay a bit more for a good meal and The Clay Oven didn't disappoint. Although we were there on their "buffet night" at over 1,000 dalasi per person it seemed a bit pricey and not enough variety. In the end we chose a couple of main courses, a couple of side dishes with some rice and it was the right amount and absolutely delicious. We like spicey food and this was well-spiced, with varying amounts of heat and masses of flavour. Loved it.

If you like Indian food you must try Tandoor whilst in Kotu.
We first visited this restaurant way back in February, 2012 when it was then known as VJ's. Prior to our second visit in 2013 the restaurant was refurbished and extended and re-named Tandoor. We have been patrons ever since.Reviewing restaurants in Gambia is not straight-forward by any means. You can dine out one night and the food and service deservedly warrants an excellent review. You can return to the same restaurant the very next day, order exactly the same meal, only to find it disappointing and the service so slow it spoils the dining experience. The Tandoor is the one exception. My wife and I have been to Kotu seven times now in the past eight years. The food and service at Tandoor has ALWAYS been excellent. The Julbrew is cheap at 65 dalassi and you are served with a complimentary poppadom and pickles. The food is relatively inexpensive and more importantly the dishes are consistent, not the norm in The Gambia I can assure you!I see that once again Tandoor is ranked as the number 1 restaurant in Kotu on TripAdvisor. Personally I wouldn't argue with that. Highly recommended!

My wife and I used the facilities at this super place to spend our relaxing time on the loungers on the beach. The staff at Ningki Nangka Restaurant were nothing less than superb, attentive, very efficient and all done with a smile. While laying on the very comfortable loungers we were plied with refreshments and food whenever we wanted it. The three guys on the beach take great pride in giving excellent service looking after any needs you may have, parasols, tables, extra chairs ect while always keeping the whole area clean and tidy and insuring the beach sellers were kept at a distance. If you are after a bit of peace and quiet added to a very relaxing few hours then this is the place to be..Ah thanks for the great review - when things are busy we don't always get everything right but your experience is what we aim for. We will make sure the team know about the review.Lafi and the team

Excellent food and service
My first trip to The Gambia, and first lunch on arrival. My local friend enjoyed as much as I did. We shared the spicy chili pepper beef over rice and the tomato cheese panini which was recommended by our waiter. Both were delicious. The outside seating perfect. We returned for dinner the following week and totally enjoyed the tiger prawns, baked Brie, spring rolls and shrimp in the spicy chili pepper oil, service impeccable. I highly recommend! Good food, different styles
Here you will find African, Chinese and Indian food, however we were in Gambia so we took Gambian traditional dishes. Both our Domoda and Yassa dishes were good, (from here, Domoda became my favorite Gambian dish) the waiters were very kind and patient (we came here very late, sorry guys!) and they helped us to choose these dishes. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and was located very close to our hotel, and it is not too expensive.
