Great Dinner

Gorgeous village pub with exposed beams and open fire. Although not traditional, they do great fajitas and as it was Friday the wife had fish and chips. Both plates excellent. Portion sizes on the generous side, pleasant staff, good beer, perfect Friday night.

Very friendly and good food

Had an evening here with friends who live in the area and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant area itself looks a bit tired and could do with a make over so first impressions were not great. The menu showed a reasonable selection of the usual pub favourites and there was also a specials board that had a few interesting more unusual choices. Once our selections were made we ordered a starter each and a main course, the waitress was very friendly and chatty and made you feel relaxed and at home straight away.I will not go into all the food we had individually but everyone agreed that the food was excellent and very good value for money. We also had a couple of bottles of wine, the list wasn't extensive but again all the usual favourites were there at a reasonable cost.Overall a very nice evening and we will certainly go back again.

Sunday lunch

A lovely setting and friendly staff. Underwhelmed by the food. No mention of curry powder in the hummus on the menu and the flatbread was more like popadoms. Pork loin for Sunday lunch was ok apart from the undercooked fat. Vegetables were not cleaned well and so left a taste of soil in the mouth. Very expensive for substandard food.Hi Jocampling14,Thanks for sharing your experience at The Marquis, we welcome all feedback both positive and negative. I appreciate the constructive detail in your comments, which have been discussed with our chefs and will be used to help us improve our offering. We will also review the descriptions on our menus - while we can't list every ingredient, perhaps the hummus does need to be described in a little more detail.I'm sorry that you felt the food didn't warrant the prices, but hopefully the setting and friendly staff will convince you to return and give us another try. A little gem

First time eating here after stopping for a swift pint after a walk back in the summer. The atmosphere is what a country pub should be with friendly and relaxed staff and excellent service. We ate here on a Sunday lunchtime and the pub was busy so make sure you book at busy times.Sunday roast was really good and well presented and as were the deserts too, home made and really tasty. The Sunday menu has what some might think is a limited menu (about four main courses and four starters) but still gives a good variety and when its good food like this shouldn't be a problem. Better to do fewer things well rather than lots of dishes in my opinion. Dog friendly too which is a plus for us and it is definitely on our to visit again list. Large pub garden with benches to the rear too for when the weather gets warmer again :)

Warm and welcoming

One of the best Chinese meals I can remember having in a long time. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Menu is extensive and has something for everyone. The restaurant is in a very old beamed building with gives it a lovely atmosphere. Portions are enormous so make sure you go hungry! Love all the little extras like the finger wipes between courses and the fresh fruit platter at the end of the meal. Would most definitely recommend.

Birthday Breakfast

visited for breakfast here today as never been but have always commented on how nice it looked. The staff were very friendly! I commented on the mushrooms that my mum had on her meal and the waiter cooked me my own plate of mushrooms on the house :-). My poached egg that came with smoked salmon was overcooked but still nice. The croissant and jam that accompanied it was delicious. There is a 50p card charge which is mentioned on the menu. A very nice, filling breakfast. Would visit again.
