Amazing owner, food and experience!!

we got here totally by mistake, we were on our way to Venice, you need to put the location in your GPS since its difficult to get there, on our way we drove up the hills and enjoyed an amazing view of the area, you need to just keep on going until you get there...when we arrived the owner greeted us and we sat in his beautiful garden. he and his wife pick mushrooms and dry them, we ate a delicious pasta dish with mushrooms, sausages and a salad from the vegetables in his garden. after that we ate homemade tirimisu and ice cream. AMAZING!!this place was incredable, its also a bed and breakfast, a guy staying there went to pick mushrooms with the owners wife and we will definitely come here for our next visit in Italy.

Great traditional culinary experience!

This is an excellent family owned restaurant to taste the authentic meals of Carnia, a northern area of Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The location is pleasant and nearby the Art Park. The building is an historic site and ambience is rustic and charming. There's an amazing fireplace-room, one of the few examples left of hood-ceiling. Seats are around the fire, according to the "fogolar" (local fireplace) tradition. Meals are excellent, all hand made using the local products and many ingredients come from the nearby family farm, while the recipes remark the local tradition. Menu is seasonal, following what the harvest has to offer. Starters are intriguing, we liked the pumpkin cake and the mountain "radicchio" (very rare to find and only wild) salad. The first courses are excellent. Traditional Cjarsons (ravioli type pasta filled with herbs and spices, however it varies in the different valleys of Carnia) are a must, but partridge ravioli and homemade pasta "blecs" with boar sauce are really special. We are not much of meat lovers so we preferred going for the very good cheese selection and another starter as second course. Cakes are delicious, we would return just for the tasty chocolate cake (crusty on the outside and creamy in the inside!!!)! They have a good selection of grappas and many home made spirits. Prices are fair, service is appropriate and sober. We definitely recommend Stella D'Oro in Villa di Verzegnis and we wish to return soon.

Very good local food

We were driving trough this area of Italy, became hungry and noticed this restaurant. From the outside didn't look promising, pretty old fashioned. Nevertheless, we decided to eat there and it was good decision. They offer simple local food but very fresh and tasty. Looked like as it is prepared with passion at home. House wine was very good. Just local people in the restaurant. Very good value for money.

A taste experience to be remembered and repeated

Some friends and I ended up in this small charming restaurant by chance, after lunch hour. We had a great meal: from the wine advised by the cook/owner, their home made Salame and cheese with warm bread, to the first courses served. We had Cjarsons alle erbe and Gnocchi and they were both to die for, absolutely perfect. My boyfriend and I already agreed in coming back. The cook and the waitress have been more than fantastic and went above and beyond to make sure all was perfect, and being the only 5 people having 'lunch' at 4pm we ended up having a VIP treatment but that seems to be their usual to all costumers, judging by the other reviews. They totally deserve the 5 stars.

Superb Food... Incredible value

Saying Location is charming is an understatement. The place is uniquely decorated with trinkets and memorabilia everywhere. The hosts are very helpful and service is great. Michela really tries hard to help in every way she can. Cleanliness is clinical. However all this would mean nothing without great food.... And food IS indeed great.Had some very unusual gnocchi made from potatoes butter and fiori the zucchine... Followed by some truly soft chicjen brrast topped with mushrooms and venison. The panna cotta ai frutti di bosco was superb. The rooms are simple but spotlessly clean and fully furnished with very comfortable matresses to make for a good night's sleep. So very higly recommended indeed.

Change of owner and quality

I returned, pressed by friends suggestions, and found the same place, but new owner and very good food. They prepare seasonal and classical meals from the local cooking tradition, using local foods. Desserts are special, worthy even if you are already satisfied. Recommended.
