Recommended establishment in Salatiga...

I would like to share my experience dining in at the famous Ronde Sekoteng Jago in Salatiga last night. We decided to come and visit this place since some of our family members never visited this particular establishment. It was really crowded by the time we reached there but we were fortunate to find the last 2 tables (we came in a group of 14 people) although we were still struggling with the space but we had no choice since all tables were occupied except the last 2. We immediately placed our orders (ronde sekoteng, batagor and mie kopyok). Our Batagor Bandung were served first after waiting for approx. 20 minutes followed by Mie Kopyok. After we finished all meals, their famous Ronde Sekoteng were served. As of me myself, I prefer their Batagor Bandung than their mie Kopyok (a matter of preference) and as I am not a fan of Ronde, I can't really tell the difference between the good and the not so good ones. This particular establishment is located in a small shophouse in "Pasar" Salatiga area. You can't miss this particular establishment although you never been here as most people in Salatiga can show you the direction how to reach it. The shophouse itself is not visible from the main street but their famous signboard is clearly visible once you pass by the main road across from Grand Wahid Hotel. Ronde Sekoteng Jago is located within 200 metres, in the left hand side, of that main street.Price wise, they are still okay. However, in our case, where every one ordered either Batagor Bandung or Mie Kopyok and their famous Ronde, the price tab came close to USD 30 total, quite steep for such a simple establishment in "Pasar" area but still,. it is not something you can't pass easily once you are in the nearby area.

First visit but will return

Visited for lunch with young children and their parents. Enclosed grassed area gave all the children something to do while waiting for lunch. A small play gym and fish pond was an added attraction. Meal service was prompt, efficient and most importantly generous, delicious and very fairly priced. The menu catered for all our dining preferences. The grounds and amenities were very well maintained and clean. Staff were very polite and helpful. I will definitely request a re visit on my next trip to Salatiga

Our preferred fish resto

We often dine here, the two of us or with guests. We think it is the best fresh water fish restaurant in town. Our favourite dishes are "gurame asam-manis", "gurame bakar sate" and "gurame bumbu bali".One has the choice to sit on western chairs and tables, or "lesehan" i.e. the Indonesian way on the floor at low tables. The latter are built over the ponds where the fish are reared; you can feed them with left-overs."Mina Kencana" is literary Javanese for goldfish. However there are no goldfish on the menu. There is another restaurant of the same name and owner on the road to Solo, but not the same cook. We tried it and found the food not as tasty as in the resto on the road to Bringin.
